BIG TOP AT CHERRY STREET 

In partnership with Wolverhampton Music Service, Wolverhampton City Council and Cherry Street SEND and Sensory Hub Big Top deliver a variety of music-making sessions for children and young people with learning disabilities who live, or attend a school, in Wolverhampton. 

All sessions take place at Cherry Street SEND and Sensory Hub,

Cherry St, Wolverhampton WV3 0QW.

The venue is fully accessible and hoist-changing facilities are available.

Sessions are designed to support the music-making of specific needs and disabilities. Please reserve a space in the most suitable session for your child/young person.

All children and young people should be accompanied by a parent/carer.

Parents/carers are responsible for their child/young person at all times. 

Siblings are welcome.

Under 11's

Autism (younger)

PMLD and complex needs

These sessions are most suitable for younger children with moderate learning difficulties,
accessing either mainstream or specialist settings.

These sessions are most suitable for primary-aged children with autism and learning disabilities.

This session is suitable for children who may be pre-verbal or non-verbal.

Interactive, multi-sensory music making, suitable for children and young people with profound and complex learning disabilities (PMLD).

Weekly sessions

11-18 years (Autism and additional needs)

These weekly sessions are designed for young people with autism, social anxiety and/or learning disabilities. Families accessing these sessions should be able to commit to weekly attendance.

Sessions will explore music-making in a supportive and structured environment and are designed for young people who enjoy music.

No previous instrumental experience is necessary.

These sessions have been scheduled to run on a weekly basis with consistent participants and music facilitators to best support consistency, routine and regularity. If you would like to express interest in your child/young person joining this group please click the button below.

Sensory Singing
(Saturdays 10.30-11.30am)

5-25 years who enjoy music

Sensory singing sessions provide opportunities for children and young people to sing, vocalise and explore their voices together.

Sessions  use a range of sensory props, activities and games to promote vocalisation and singing.

Sessions use Makaton signs, singing, visual aids and lyric and non-lyric based activities. Activities are suitable for children and young people who enjoy music-making and like to have fun.

 

Sensory Singing sessions provide an opportunity for everyone to explore and build confidence in using their voice and making a sound, and experience this in a group with others!

Participants of this session will automatically be offered 30 min free use of the Cherry Street Sensory Room after the Sensory Singing session (11:30 am-12 noon).  This 'Stay and Play' optional activity will be supported by a Big Top facilitator.

School Holiday Provision

Join us in the school holidays for our free inclusive and accessible music-making opportunities for children and young people (aged 5-25 years) in Wolverhampton.

 

Sessions are funded by Wolverhampton Music Service, City of Wolverhampton Council and Wolverhampton Family Hubs.

 

10.30-11.30am: suitable for under 11's

 

12-1pm: for people with PMLD and complex needs

 

2-3pm: suitable for young people 11-18 years with autism and learning disabilities

 

Parents/carers are responsible for their child/young person throughout the session. Siblings are welcome to attend.

 

Participants of this session will automatically be offered 30 min free use of a Sensory Room after the session. This 'Stay and Play' optional activity will be supported by a Big Top facilitator.

Big Top Musicians is a pilot programme running in partnership with Wolverhampton Music Service, Wolverhampton City Council and Cherry Street SEND and Sensory Hub as part of their new out of school inclusive music provision. The provision is still developing and as such may be subject to change. Any feedback or comments on the provision are welcomed.
